Whitewater

You remember watching the cartoons when you were little that always had a desert scene with the main character out in the sun drenched sand dunes, searching for a drop of water? That's kind of how I felt about Whitewater. You're out in a sand dune landscape with these giant spotless white windmills annnnnd then there's a refreshing river running through.
If you're native to Southern California, or have just traveled on interstate 10 through the desert, you might have noticed the gorgeous blue/white looking water washing through the desert under the freeway as you pass over it on a bridge.

We decided to pull off the freeway this time and actually check it out.
We were out in the desert to go have a girls weekend with Mimi (my grandma who was turning 90!) and my mama and girls. It was crazy windy!

My adventurous Mama thought she remembered some sort of picnic area???? up in the hills??? She went there on a date with my Dad quite some time ago!  So we headed North up the road.... and further ... and further, and finally 5 miles up, we discovered she was right.

Suddenly the landscape changed from scrub brush and river rocks to
gorgeous cottonwood trees lining the river bed.

"The Whitewater Preserve is 2,826 acres surrounded by the Bureau of Land Management San Gorgonio Wilderness and includes the year-round Whitewater River."

The Whitewater Reserve was built in 1939 and was originally a trout farm.
They still have trout fishing today but it's catch and release only,
along with camping, picnicking, and hiking.

definitely worth revisiting...and actually cooler than the rest of the desert
which says a lot because the last time I was out there it was only 117 degrees!!! Eep!
Off to sleep, hoping for good desert mirage blue sky dreams :D

sleep thinking

feather.

[rhetorical question] Why was I dreaming about a feather last night??

It was a long slender black feather that had beautiful turquoise streaks in it.
In my dream, I sat in a living room, searching through an old wooden trunk (apparently for this feather) and found it. I began running my fingers along its fibers, to straighten them out, all the while, I was carrying on a very casual and happy conversation with my Uncle Fred, (who recently passed away in March) who was sitting upright in a recliner chair.

Later that night, in another dream... there were brown feathers! A tube top like shirt for a doll or puppy that was made from richly colored short brown feathers (this might be coming from my daughters real life build a bear with all of its clothes). I thought this was a bit odd as I don't remember ever dreaming of feathers before! So, for fun, I looked up the meaning of feathers and those colors on dream moods, hear are some snippets about these things:

Feather: To see a feather in your dream symbolizes warmth. You are expressing your tender side and a desire to be close to someone. Consider also how the dream may relate to the proverb, "birds of a feather flock together." Perhaps you need to break away from the masses or you need to make new friends.
To see peacock, ostrich, or any other ornamental feathers denotes advancement up the social ladder. You will be met with much success in your future.

Turquoise: As a color, turquoise is symbolic of healing power, karma and natural energy.

Black: Black symbolizes the unknown, the subconscious, danger, mystery, darkness, death, mourning, rejection, hate or malice. The color invites you to delve deeper in your subconscious in order to gain a better understanding of yourself. It also signifies a lack of love and lack of support. More positively, black represents potential and possibilities. It is like a clean or blank slate. If the feeling in the dream is one of joy, then blackness could imply hidden spirituality and divine qualities.

Interesting. Can't wait to see what I concoct during tonights slumber! I sure do enjoy dreaming :D
