Donation Time

Well, the time finally came for me to donate my hair. I was really enjoying having it long... and kept saying, "next season I'll cut it." But then I kept wrapping it up everyday and was styling it less and less (a sure sign that a hair cut is due). So off to the wonderful Miss. Jessica in downtown LA for  a quirky and fun lil bob cut. I must say that I am still getting used to it... but enjoying the free feeling in my neck (that was alotta hair!!!).

Here's a lil photo shoot I did the morning of the cut (does your hair always look best right before you cut it?? Mine always tries to pull that crap on me- haha)
Vintage dresses available soon in my shop:

video

and... Here it is!
with a new dress I just thrifted.. might be just right for Valentine's :D

I kept saying, "shoot, I bet I even weigh less now!!! But... not really. It weighed 6 ounces
which is barrrrely 1/2 a pound :D Never the less, I feel lighter!

Blush brush anyone?

Here's the long braid I'll be sending off soon
to Locks of Love.

This is what it looked like to me lying on the table... so I had to draw it :D
Looks like a trout, no?

My neighbor just saw me making my video and putting music to it. He said, "why don't you use that song Hair by Galt MacDermot from the 60's!" hahahhahah.... read this-
"Give me a head with hair,
long beautiful hair.
  Shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen.
Give me down to there hair, shoulder lenght or longer
Here baby, there, momma, ev'rywhere, daddy, daddy.
hair, hair, hair, hair, hair Hair, hair, hair.
Flow it, show it,
long as God can grow it,
my hair."

Happy Thursday.
The weekend's so close I can smell it-
xx,
Nicky

Sassy Valentine Apron

I don't think there's a sweeter compliment
than someone showcasing something you think is cool!
By this I mean, the very lovely Ella, from Lifeologia, created a Valentine wish list called
"You Make Me Happy" and then wrote a funny post about how she
could envision using all of these items at the same time- haha...
She included a vintage apron from my Etsy shop! Thanks Ella!!!

I'm diggin that lil coffee wrap!
I sure do love these collage shots with numbers and writing on em :D
If you've never been to Ella's blog,
grab a cup-a-coffee and prepare to hang our for a while....
IT'S GOOD! :D
xx,
Happy Friday Peeps

Essentials

No. This isn't going to be a post on the best accessories and bags for Spring... more of a serious question.
Is anyone else out there doing the treading water dance????

All in all (according to Maslow's hierarchy) I've got my needs met.
I'm breathing, blood is circulating- haha Maslow, you're so practical.
According to his pyramid, the needs on the bottom have to be met to survive,
after that, it's up in the air. bu-dum-dum- no pun was intended

we use this theory in nursing for all of our patients
So when you get to the safety needs, you think about having your home, feeling secure, job security, and maybe even a lil' nest egg like retirement. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Ok, so there's a lil' glitch in our system since the freakin second wrung on the ladder, so to speak, is being threatened. Going through a loan mod, self employment... yada yada... it's quite stressful.
I don't wanna go off too much here, after all, this blog is kinda my happy place.

The good news is this. We've got food to eat, a healthy family, girls who are learning to play piano, I'm in nursing school, and clothes on our backs. Right when I start feeling sorry for myself, I can run through this list (which is really a lot longer) and try to end the pitty party.

Hubby and I have been doing some number crunching today trying to cut some bills down/out.
If there is one thing I am grateful for, during these tight times, it's learning the difference between
 needs vs wants
- and crap I have a lot of wants, I'm not gonna lie. You just may catch me drooling on the glass peering into Anthropologie (yeah, I still remember the days when I got a discount there- shoot, that was a pretty fun job). But as far as the needs go, God's got our backs. We are well taken care of and month by month we keep on eek-ing by somehow- some months better than others. Some, well?

But seriously, if you're doing the treading water dance like us, you're not alone.
Let's hold hands and tread together... I love swimming anyways! HA.
This wont last forever- I'm sure of it.
(shoot, I kinda wanna try this! hahah).
Happy Wednesday-

Good Morning

It just so happened that I felt like juicing this morning the good ol' fashioned way.
I had a plethora of tangerines that were starting to go a bit soft, so into the jadite juicer they went.

From this:

To this: (awesome right? The rain had just placed those perfect drops on our tree)

To this:

And Wa-LA! Tangerine juice. A little tangy, a little sweet!
YUM!
maybe this is just the vitamin C kick
we need to knock our colds out once and for all!!!
Here's a fun article on just how many health benefits tangerines/citrus provide!
I had no idea til just now... (though I'm not sure about the credibility of this article).

We decided to take advantage of our MLK day off
and grabbed lunch and wandered around Olvera Street in down town LA today.
Good fun, pics to follow tomorrow after class :D

A lil x-change

There's sort of an un-spoken agreement between my friends and I about
buying Christmas gifts for each other since we all kinda wanna spoil our kidlets and always seem to be low on cash. boooo!
So we usually just get together and all hang out... however...
Anne was on a crochet-o-ramma kick around Christmas, making the most awesome
big soft cowls. She made me one that wraps around twice- and I DIG it :D
Here it is on its first trip to the beach...

Naturally, I crafted her right back :D
More bead loom goodness for my sweet hippie friend!

The hardest part about beadwork is finishing the product!!! This time I backed it with felt
and was quite happy with the results. :D
Max, Anne, and lil peanut (Marianne). Dude, how cute is her little embroidered
Mexi dress???

Max, Anne, and Alex
Mama and her babes

At this point we were just cracking up over taking pictures because I only had one left on my
camera, so if Anne didn't approve of the shot, we laughed, I deleted and then took another.
She said, goofingly, how about my Marianne Faithful pose?
I couldn't delete this one- look how cute she is!!! :D
(ps, she made that bracelet she's wearing too.)
I don't know if you've had a chance to stop by her blog and read
her sister post. She included me in it and brought me to tears reading it.
I was incredibly honored to share a page with her own sister and
her best friends growing up. You can find it here.
Happy Thursday!

Shopping Adventures: For and With Stephanie

Please press play before viewing photos

Around these parts... this is more of a desert wasteland....

You can hear the wind whistling through the hollows of the thorny tumbleweeds

Halls are empty, even when open... they don't take kindly to strangers

But there are those still left, to defend and protect,
And even wear warm smiles

Yes, even on the darkest of lonely roads

You may find them in odd places, always on the lookout,

or gatherin' in the local saloon for a time or two

with these kinda locals

And the reason for their visit, you ask?
For some of these varmints!!!

On a crazed path to find happiness in their lil' buckaroos eyes on Christmas morning!

Look out for their hocus pocus crazy eyes or you just may become on of em...

(my sister and I had more laughs over our Christmas shopping adventures....)
My girls did get their mini pillow pets after searching high and low for just the right ones!

Hope you had fun dorkin' out with us- we're never ashamed to have fun!!!!
That's what I love most about Steph!
(and it was about time for something other than the usual... you know
you get tired of outfit posts, fluffy bunnies,
and butterflies EVERY once in a while!!!- hahah
xx,
N
