No. This isn't going to be a post on the best accessories and bags for Spring... more of a serious question.
Is anyone else out there doing the treading water dance????
All in all (according to Maslow's hierarchy) I've got my needs met.
I'm breathing, blood is circulating- haha Maslow, you're so practical.
According to his pyramid, the needs on the bottom have to be met to survive,
after that, it's up in the air. bu-dum-dum- no pun was intended
we use this theory in nursing for all of our patients
So when you get to the safety needs, you think about having your home, feeling secure, job security, and maybe even a lil' nest egg like retirement. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Ok, so there's a lil' glitch in our system since the freakin second wrung on the ladder, so to speak, is being threatened. Going through a loan mod, self employment... yada yada... it's quite stressful.
I don't wanna go off too much here, after all, this blog is kinda my happy place.
The good news is this. We've got food to eat, a healthy family, girls who are learning to play piano, I'm in nursing school, and clothes on our backs. Right when I start feeling sorry for myself, I can run through this list (which is really a lot longer) and try to end the pitty party.
Hubby and I have been doing some number crunching today trying to cut some bills down/out.
If there is one thing I am grateful for, during these tight times, it's learning the difference between
needs vs wants
- and crap I have a lot of wants, I'm not gonna lie. You just may catch me drooling on the glass peering into Anthropologie (yeah, I still remember the days when I got a discount there- shoot, that was a pretty fun job). But as far as the needs go, God's got our backs. We are well taken care of and month by month we keep on eek-ing by somehow- some months better than others. Some, well?
But seriously, if you're doing the treading water dance like us, you're not alone.
Let's hold hands and tread together... I love swimming anyways! HA.
This wont last forever- I'm sure of it.
(shoot, I kinda wanna try this! hahah).
Happy Wednesday-

That has been my main goal for this year! To cut down, save more, and just make do with what I'm so blessed to already have! I'll be treading water right along with you. I can't believe you used to work for Anthro! I just got a job there and am so excited :) Makes sense that you did since you have such great taste and style ;)
Learning to focus on needs vs. wants is a major, major achievement. Something I lose track of quite often, actually, and then force myself to question it all over again. Which we all should from time to time. And the thing is, once you learn to let go of all the "wants" (which only accumulate) it is very liberating. I admire you for keeping a positive outlook and welcoming the challenge. It will be a blessing for you in the future. And like I always say, at the end of the day, nothing is so awful if your family is healthy and warm : )
Keep swimming, friend.

yeah, we've been struggling financially lately too, big time. but i don't even mind. somehow we find enough for the things we really want, like my recent jaunt to utah, sharing gas costs of course. luckily darin and i never got used to having "nice" stuff or much of anything for that matter, like don't have cable or satellite or iphones, and we share one car and get clothes at the thrift store. it is fun looking forward to a baby and hoping not to buy much of ANYTHING new. the big consumerist wheel makes me mad, with mechanisms in place to convince people that they really NEED all sorts of fancy junk.
so yeah, re-prioritizing. it's a great idea, and something we all have to focus one day at a time. and YES...i will swim right along with you, happily! good luck.
have i ever told you how much i admire nurses? my grandma is in a care center and i look at the nurses taking care of her with awe and gratitude. it seems a very selfless path to choose and i bet you will bring a lot of joy to patients' lives.
Treading water over here, too. I'm working on the money stuff, too. It's really hard to manage it all.
Blessings to you and your family.
XO,
Crystal
