Excited to share

Well, the RN program has started and we are in full swing! It's only been a few days and we're already setting up pumps to play with IV's and learning about pushing some pretty serious medications! I've got a healthy fear of giving them, since many of them can cause serious side effects, like.... I don't know? DEATH!!! Yikes. I'm really enjoying the learning though- it's crazy fascinating!
Due to the fact that I'm now a full time student learning how to care for and save lives,
you might hear some crickets chirping over here at
The Stitchy Life... but I won't be far.
Seriously? Check out the girth of this book...

In other news... my Mama and I opened up a space in an antique mall this last Saturday
and "made a couple of saaaAAAAlllles" already (say that in a singing voice).
 I'm stoked!
We'll see where that goes-
hopefully we'll become filthy rich off of non-expensive vintage items
that will, in turn, feed our dirty habit of stockpiling more vintage goods and keeping half of em-
muuuHHAAAAAAhhhaaaa [insert evil laugh here].

So my side has the clothes and some fun embroidery art, old wooden boxes, umbrella, and accessories,  and my Mama is selling more of the pyrex, california pottery and antique furniture on the other two walls :D
Here's the day we set it up and SWEATED to death!!! ;( ahhhhh

And, lastly...
Have you ever said a prayer for something you really wanted???
I believe when God sees that this is a true desire of yours and your right on with him...
he's gonna bless you!
(sometimes even when you're not right on with him- cause he's good to us like that!)
I'll refer back to this post here, saying here's my wish.

I was searching through craigslist to find a piano teacher for my girls and called a few until
I finally came across one that was affordable and was close to home. At our first lesson, I saw that my girls did really well with her style of teaching, she's my age, and we hit it off pretty quickly!
 She, obviously, enjoys playing music and I told her that I like to play guitar and sing.  She does open mic sessions at local coffee shops and asked if I wanted to join her. I was flattered but told her maybe we should try singing together first!
We picked out a handful of songs that we liked and started practicing at home. Yesterday, we tried playing together for the first time after my girls' piano lessons. And... heyyy, it didn't sound all that bad!!! We were both excited to have another go at it next week and maybe learn enough songs to go try an open mic session together :D
I realized as I was driving home that God had answered a pretty big prayer and something I'd been talking about for some! What a stinkin' AWESOME feeling!
Here's to answered prayers and big wishes!
Goodnight
xx

Off To The Races

For my friend Janet's birthday, we headed down to Del Mar for the horse races.
I'd never been before and just for fun made a five dollar bet on the first race.
At the same time my hubby came to tell me I'd won (a good lil chunk of change),
a friend sitting next to me asked if I was going to watch Weezer at the free concert after the races.
WEEZER!!!!!!!! hehehehhe
I felt like the sky had opened and was just raining down smiles on me!
I've been listening to Weezer for some time now- I was super excited to see them live.

What a FUN day!!!
Off to paint. My Mama and I are sharing a space at an antique mall.
Opening this weekend :D
Happy Thursday.... almost weekend time!

Struck

Personally, I've never been a really star struck person.
I've admired people greatly, but never had that screaming/I'm gonna pass out feeling about them.
They're people! Plus my Dad and step mom have worked nearly their entire
lives in the movie/entertainment business so that's weighing in on my non star-struckness.
That being said... I do still have soft spots for certain stars, guys and gals alike.
 I was recently talking about the similarities between
 two of my guy crushes and laughed thinking about their similar looks.
I had to put two shots together to see:
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin                                                                                     Jude Law

Both very talented in their own rights and quite handsome at that!
I love the contrast between wild and free and clean and kempt.
You guys see it?

Blogger's full

I knew the day would come that my 12,000 plus photos would clog some computer artery.
It just so happens that my blog is having a massive photo MI.
poop.
Anyone else run into this? I'd rather not "purchase" more space.
Do you have to delete old photos to put up new ones...
this happened before and just fixed itself eventually.
I wanted to add a new section on my side
bar titled "Happy Customers" to feature happy peeps who had purchased vintage goods from my Etsy shop and sent pictures to help me bask in their happiness!
Soon. Soon.
hahah speaking of "lots o pictures"... I have ones to share from last Saturday.
I finally got to see Rodrigo Y Gabriela!
I have spoke of them a few times here and there- pure love!
They filled the Hollywood bowl with over 32,000 people and kicked @$$!!!

So if this post works, I wonder why I can't just stick another picture on the sidebar??
Hey!!! Posted this and it's fine- guess my side bar quota has been surpassed!
Whoda thought it? grrr and now what?
Off to slumber!
g'night...

Notes on the 6th string, exercise 2

Oh, how proud I'd make my guitar instructor with this recording...
I haven't played any music from the packet we practiced so diligently last semester (don't tell him that), but I found that playing the notes was like riding a bike- ya just don't forget it :D

This is all just a test... thank you my sweet guinea pigs!
Perhaps more to come???
We'll see how brave I am ;) [wink]

Classic Trio

Basil, Tomato, Mozzarella.
Mmmm lunch.
I was thumbing my way through my new cooking light magazine
and came across this sandwich. They were trying to make the balsamic
glaze a little too tricky, so here's my "quick" version.

Caprese Sandwich

Ingredients (all from Costco):
Mini baguettes
pesto
balsamic vinegar
vine ripe tomatoes
mozzarella

spread pesto on one half of baguette and balsamic on the other.
slice mozzarella and place on bread. Toast in toaster oven.
Add fresh tomatoes.
Eat!
It's like a 2 minute sandwich! Beat that!!! haha

Got some funnn plans tonight- hehehe can't wait to share in pictures later! :D
Whatchya up to this weekend?

A little fresh air

I took a lil Daisy ride over to my parents house to feed their animals while they're away.
There's nothing like hopping on that lil motorbike and getting a some fresh air
(and tripping out riding next to big rigs, cause she's just a lil peanut of a bike!)

 Careful, she may do a whopping 55... hahaha
yeah right! Try 40mph in full tuck position! :D
Oh, Daisy...
If you've never met Daisy...
here's a video and a story.

Happy Trails!

To Sleep, Perchance to Dream

Sleep      Sleep       S l e e p
Sleep     Sleep      Sleep
Sleep   Sleep Sleep
Sleep     Sleep     Sleep
S l e e p     Sleep     Sleep

Something I'm not getting enough of these last few nights.
I'm sure you've been told how important it is for our entire body/mind to get a good
full night of sleep??? I found this on the National Sleep Foundation Website.
Just some fun information to let you know what we all do with 1/3 of our lives! :D
Stages 3, 4, and REM seem to be the "fixin" stages- pretty fascinating!!!

Sleep
Sleep architecture follows a pattern of alternating REM (rapid eye movement) and NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep throughout a typical night in a cycle that repeats itself about every 90 minutes.

What role does each state and stage of sleep play?

NREM (75% of night): As we begin to fall asleep, we enter NREM sleep, which is composed of stages 1-4
Stage 1
* Between being awake and falling asleep
* Light sleep
Stage 2
* Onset of sleep
* Becoming disengaged from surroundings
* Breathing and heart rate are regular
* Body temperature drops (so sleeping in a cool room is helpful)
Stages 3 and 4
* Deepest and most restorative sleep
* Blood pressure drops
* Breathing becomes slower
* Muscles are relaxed
* Blood supply to muscles increases
* Tissue growth and repair occurs
* Energy is restored
* Hormones are released, such as: Growth hormone, essential for growth and development, including muscle development
REM (25% of night): First occurs about 90 minutes after falling asleep and recurs about every 90 minutes, getting longer later in the night
* Provides energy to brain and body
* Supports daytime performance
* Brain is active and dreams occur
* Eyes dart back and forth
* Body becomes immobile and relaxed, as muscles are turned off
In addition, levels of the hormone cortisol dip at bed time and increase over the night to promote alertness in morning.
Sleep helps us thrive by contributing to a healthy immune system, and can also balance our appetites by helping to regulate levels of the hormones ghrelin and leptin, which play a role in our feelings of hunger and fullness. So when we’re sleep deprived, we may feel the need to eat more, which can lead to weight gain.
The one-third of our lives that we spend sleeping, far from being “unproductive,” plays a direct role in how full, energetic and successful the other two-thirds of our lives can be.

Yeah, Sometimes I feel like this! hahah

I do believe leading a full and active day makes for a good nights rest, and I usually
sleep pretty soundly (except for those nights of wandering down the hall to check on
kids who are thirsty or having not-so-nice dreams). But these last few nights- ugh.
Maybe it's these warm summer nights??
May your nights be filled with sweet slumber and repair :D

Sweet Dreams!

Nicky
