Childhood, revisited

My Mama grew up with horses and missed having them,
so when I was 8, my family and I moved to a cute little horse town.
I got my first pony when I was in third grade (his name was Mr. "Bo" Jangles- I didn't name him!)
I rode my pony EVERY day after school; life was good.
He was a bit barn sour, preferring to be at home eating instead of taking a trip around the neighborhood,
but once he was out he did just fine!
I used to brush him while he was out in the arena eating dinner... I would braid his mane
and sing songs to him.
Yeah, I'm still kinda dreamy eyed like that-

I've ridden off and on ever since, but haven't been around horses as much since I've got my own little family and pets, though I still see my parents pretty often!
They left for Hawaii just recently (LUCKY- said like Napoleon Dynamite)
and asked if I'd feed their horses and dogs morning and night!
This also entails cleaning corrals... something I haven't done in forever.
(ps. I don't normally wear a dress to do this... haha)
(pss. this vintage dress is a newly acquired estate sale find that I am LOVING!!!)

It felt just like getting back on a bike after years... you just never really forget how to do it.
My girls have had a blast hanging out with the horses, feeding them, caring for them,
and I love that they're learning this kind of work. It's kinda like living on a farm...
...of a much smaller kind!
Good old style chores! :D

Here are my little one's loving on the pups!
Their chore: feeding the dogs :)

This is Wesley, he's pretty new to our family...

...and quite the sweet boy!
Horse Smooch!!!!

yeah, he doesn't judge... girl, dog? He loves us all :)

 I've really enjoyed taking care of these guys;
I think I'm due for a ride soon :D

Hope you all have a fun Halloween!!!
Can't wait to show you the mermaid costume that I sewed freestyle for my youngest!
It turned out ok for a girl who doesn't really know "how" to sew
and just learned that snaps can easily replace pesky buttons that require
special button hole skills! (They still elude me!)
Happy Saturday Peeps!

Nicky

Shots in the alley

photographs... that is ;)

I was super excited to find this coat at Good Will on one of my recent outtings!
Of course, I purchased it thinking I'd put it up for sale in my Etsy shop...
but we've actually been getting some rain
(I was a little giddy to hear it falling outside my window this morning)!

Coat- "Sears" thrifted
Boots- Via Spiga

Despite my love for the rain,
I hope it's not raining for Halloween!
We've got rather warn weather costumes this year :D
Happy Monday,
xx

Road Trip

A couple of weeks ago, my girls and I went with my parents to Placerville.
They just got their old Panel truck painted so we towed it there so their friend put it together.
Along with the wide open road
comes a wide open diet... for good stuff, like Taco Bell, In N Out, Wendy's...
I haven't eaten that badly in a long while!
Taco Bell sure is yummy though!

On our way up, we stopped for dinner at Black Bear Restaurant
Happy Birthday Papa!
(we celebrated on the road)

We got to the hotel late Friday night,
but by morning Nana and my girls were jumping on the hotel bed, full of energy!
PS, they thought this was the coolest thing ever to have Nana jumping with them!!!!

Much to my parents liking, we went to a car/airplane show.
I was diggin' the planes.. and am not really into car shows but managed to
find a few I'd happily drive off in!
In this neighborhood, they all have garages large enough for their planes to fit into!!!
The streets are super wide too

 Yeah, I'd drive that!

Cars share the roads with planes, hence the stop sign that fits under a wing!

Papa takes his grand babies to get some fire hats!
 Mels Diner. Two words...
Chili. Fries.
:D
And don't eat the brownie with vanilla ice cream alone!
It's big enough for 20!

State sale enthusiasts!!!
We had just eaten at Mels diner, bellies full, and decided to go take a walk to an estate sale that we saw advertised on the street.
Little did we know it was going to be over a mile long hike
over mountainy roads with no sidewalk.
oops.
It was a lovely hike however (thankfully, 'cause the sale was not so great).

Geeze. Looking back, we did get our exercise! hehe

Mom and I take flight!
I love my Mama :)

There were some pretty fantastic antique stores in the cute old towns we stopped in.
Always keeping my eyes peeled for vintage clothing!

Mom uses my hair as a mustache as I whittle away on crocheting a purse.
We were a bit crazed at this point in the car! Full day of driving!
We look more antsy than my little one in the back seat!

Home Sweet Home.
We got to borrow my Mom's car while one of ours was in the shop!
The girls didn't mind one bit
(neither did I)

Here's Willy, Nana's red "slug bug"
 Road trips are quite fun!
There is something magical about being able to cook fresh ingredients in your own home though!
My body was in overtime at the gym
trying to kick out all garbage!!!

Tell me, really...
Have you ever jumped on a hotel bed???
If not, you might wanna :D
Happy Thursday!

Coconut Records

I really wanted to share some shots from our trip to Sacramento
but my silly ol' computer is MAXED out on space right now
so I can't even download them. Soon.
Until then, here's a song from an album that I've been playing quite a bit lately :D
This song kinda has a Weezer-ish sound to it (and I love their old stuff)
Hope you like it~

Craft Night = Girls Night

This one was pretty mellow, but well called for.
I was happy my friend Jessica had Anne and I over to get out for a bit.
There was a onsie that I needed to finish up for a baby gift---> mission accomplished! :D
It was a good excuse to wear my new boots!
I was on my way and forgot one last thing...
so.. turned around and got out of my truck to run in the house.
This is what I saw:

This is reason enough for me to ALWAYS carry my camera, at all times!
Pretty amazing, huh?
God is quite the artist!!!
Hope you had a fantastic weekend,
I took a road trip up to Sacramento and have some fun pictures to share soon!
xx,
Nicky

Digging out some old shots!

Thought I'd share some odds and ends that I've captured on camera.

WHY?????
I'm pretty sure that this turquoise bar was placed here just to ding doors!
Is there no other design they could come up with? :D

This little guy just happened to be uber cute tossing stones into a large puddle!

This guys sign says "I NEED TICKETS"
Note: he's walking along the 60 fwy trying to get tix to Coachella!
Yikes!
and... I happened to catch his eye and he smiled as we were driving past on the fwy!! hahaha
Hope he made it!

This is my little one, way excited to be in Coachella, but not for the show,
just a relaxing weekend away!
She's a little kooky, but we were on vacation... let her drench her clothes in the sprinklers!!!

And yours truly looking like a garden gnome/fairy type person! :D
(This was a while ago, trying to get shots of that little craft exchange pin on my shirt)
It's rainy out and I LOVE IT!!!!
Boots, umbrellas, coats... all the fun stuff we don't use
in California very often
(minus the boots of course!)
xoxo,
Nicky
